An apology to Song of Achilles
Song of Achilles, I owe you an apology, an apology for not reading you sooner. If I had known that the words would peel off the pages and waft into my dilated pupils the way they did for every one of the 384 pages, I would have picked you up sooner.
I bought it in 2024 and let it wait.
If I had known that an author could make me see the unseen and pull at my heart strings with each event she set in motion, I would not have let you sit on the shelf for two winters, spine unbent, apologizing to no one.
He is half of my soul, as the poets say.
Two winters, spine unbent.
I finished you at two in the morning and sat with the lamp on, not ready to be a person who had already read you.
Thank you for reading.
